We talk a lot about having purpose in our lives, but how do we go about identifying that purpose? Conscientious leadership expert Nick Jankel has some advice for us. Firstly, start slowly, perhaps in your job or on the edges of your job. Then keep a ‘meaning journal’ for a week across all areas of your life, and record the moments of meaning that were most rewarding. “Use verbs rather than things – when I was teaching, caring, listening, reading, for example,” says Nick. If you do it for a week, you’ll probably start to see some patterns. And this is where you start to awaken to your purpose. “Then start to orient your life towards those moments of meaning,” he says.
