Former Government Advisor on Mental Health
Natasha Devon is a former advisor to the government on child mental health. She has personal experience of anxiety and eating disorders herself. Natasha would like to see a society where children are taught how to develop healthy habits that will stand them in good stead in the future. But, she says, the education system is making that difficult. Children are taught why exercise matters but not given enough time to do it. Depression is starting at ever younger ages. Natasha says cuts to child mental health services mean young people are having to wait far too long for treatment. With her work in schools, Natasha is trying to make mental health conversations universal and to teach young people about ways of thinking to overcome difficult issues.
