Charlie Cannon advises us how to manage our anxiety levels and panic during times of extraordinary confusion and worry of the coronavirus pandemic. For those that suffer anyway, the bombardment of news can be overwhelming. Spend time in nature and walk off or exercise to lower spikes in your cortisol. Try and stop the triggers at source – you might want to remove social media apps from your phone for now. Consume yourself in activities that require you to be fully present, and lean on mindfulness techniques to push away unhelpful thoughts. Charlie suggests allowing your anxiety permission to “be” for an allocated period of time, and appreciate the things that are going well.
Finally, it’s not weak to speak. Reach out and talk to someone with whom you feel safe.
